Details are such an important part of your wedding day.
They remind you of why you chose to get married in the first place.
To start a family, to carry on a tradition, to be with your person.
Let your details tell the story of your love.
And to do that, you need a photographer who also finds that important.
top 10 details to capture:
- Your rings (you, your partner, your engagement ring)
- Your Garter, Veil, or Head piece for your hair
- Your flowers, bouquet, corsages, and boutonnières
- Your shoes (this sounds funny but it can be really fun and creative!)
- Your jewelry, what else are you wearing and who gave them to you/let you borrow?
- Your 4 somethings (old, new, borrowed, blue). (your dress can fit in here as new!)
- Your perfume/cologne
- Your husbands watch and lapel!
- Your table decor!
- Your cake/Desserts!
so how are you going to choose?
Have you ever thought hard about something to the point where your eyes are about to bulge out of your head and you get this enormous headache? Planning a wedding is NOT supposed to feel like that. Your sweetest details can become massive in photography and videography for your big day. They're also things that people will notice about you in person on the day of.
Your rings are already chosen for you or with you, by your partner, by your grandmother's or mother's or your mother in law's. They're either new to you or from your family.
Some people are choosing to not go with the bouquet toss and the garter reveal, but that's completely up to you and your partner. We will support you in whatever you choose to do! Your garter can be ordered by a local small business owner or on a site like Etsy where they custom create orders. We've seen so many veils in our time photographing and videoing weddings. Most brides are choosing their own when they pick their dress but for my wedding, I chose to have my own and photograph myself with my mother's veil in my bridal portraits. Some people choose to only use their veil in their Mr. and Mrs., bridals, or in their boudoir portraits.
The flowers are a big symbol of your day, matching your season, maybe they're your favorite, maybe there's a favorite memory attached to a specific one? Each person is different but we've had many artificial flowers that look real and that you can keep, wooden flowers, and fresh/real flowers that you can preserve.
Your shoes can be comfy, stylish, or both. For me, I had my dream shoes picked out and then my feet were SO swollen, thank goodness I had a back up pair of shoes that I ordered for graduation from my Masters that worked for me. They were still stylish but had small wedges and fit like a pair of silver sandals.
Jewelry! some of these details you may not wear, but maybe you want photographed? your mom's pearls, your grandma's wedding ring, your grandpa's handkerchief? These are all important moments of your big day and of your life to use with your jewelry. Necklaces if you have the neckline in your dress for it, bracelets if you are not wearing long sleeves, and a belt for your dress if you want one!
The 4 somethings: This is a tradition that marks the beginning of weddings (or at least that's what I've always heard). some ideas for your something old can be anything from your family, something borrowed can be anything anyone loans you for the big day, your something new is anything you have bought for the wedding or a gift you received, or something blue, a tiny detail (like ear rings).
Many brides choose a perfume that matches their color scheme, but some have a favorite, mine is Daisy by Marc Jacobs! others may choose a scent that's familiar to their mom or from your childhood. Cologne for your spouse may smell like them or you may choose to buy them this as a gift!
Watches and Lapels make great gifts for your spouse for the big day!
Table decor: this is the big one I find that most people freak out over.
You need to remember your style, your theme, and your color scheme for this.
I hear this all the time: Are you having an indoor gala type event, you cannot use rustic barn decor. Oh and this: Having a barn wedding? don't use vintage floral if you don't want to....but guess who broke the rules? US. I had a vision for Alice and wonderland but had an indoor back up rain plan with uplighting and a dance floor full of people.
And here's the FUN PART: SO WHAT IF YOU DO break the rules, too?
it's about YOUR vision, not anyone else.
Cake and Desserts, the most delicious part of the day. Tiny cupcakes, different types of pies, your big cake, a little dessert for the afterparty. Maybe you're having a brunch or a groom's cake for your rehearsal dinner. Either way, we're here for it and we love sweets! :)
