Anxiety is a beast, make sure you have the tools to master it.

For as long as I can remember, I have had anxiety. When I was little I didn't know what to name it, but when I found out the term, what it was, how it manifests, how I could control it....I felt free.

The label was a blessing, how to actually deal with it was a whole' other lesson of life.

What I'm here to tell you is:

  1. It is possible be a successful healthy adult with a set of mental health issues.
  2. mental health requires you to take care of your mind, give yourself the same care you would if you need to go to the doctor, except this type of care is for your thoughts, feelings, behaviors.
  3. you need one giant big self care list or toolbox of coping skills, not just one works, and if you have a couple, recycle them because our bodies get used to what works and we need to try new things once we feel bored, worn out, or tired.
  4. you can have a job, or two (or four like I used to, wow, never again) if you work really hard at taking care of yourself. I'm talking daily routines, block scheduling, and saying NO by using your boundaries.
  5. you need support. seriously, I talk to my friends, my husband, God, my parents, anyone I can, when I am not feeling my best or like myself, because that helps me. I channel authenticity, vulnerability, and transparency. and I practice not over sharing on the daily.

For those of you wanting more tips and tricks on how to handle your anxiety, I am going to be sharing more of my story here on the blog. So visit soon, and I'll explain more of what works for me.

Love,

Burt
